The health crises in the royal family has brought a focus to the warming of relations between Prince Harry and King Charles III in the wake of his cancer diagnosis. But there might be another reconciliation on the horizon if Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton can find a way to forgiveness — and it appears that there is some reaching out happening behind the scenes.
Harry’s recent blink-and-you-missed-it trip to the U.K. to support his father was a decision made by the Sussexes together. They felt that it was important to show their love and concern — it wasn’t just Harry’s idea, according to an Us Weekly source. “Meghan was in total agreement that Harry had to be there,” they shared. “He got to tell his father how much he loves him and get a fuller account of what Charles is facing.” Healing the rift isn’t just reserved for Charles, though, Meghan has reportedly reached out to the Princess of Wales after her abdominal surgery.
“Meghan has contacted Kate and Charles,” the palace insider added. “So moves are being made to reconcile.” If that wasn’t enough confirmation that Harry and Meghan are ready to put the feud to rest, a second source doubled down on their enthusiasm to make it work. “Meghan is supportive of Harry in all of this, and she wishes the royals — Kate included — the very best,” the second insider added. But that doesn’t mean Kate is ready to welcome Meghan back with open arms.
The Princess of Wales’ priority is healing from her surgery, but a third source told the media outlet that she “is open to reconciling, though with Harry more so than Meghan.” There are still “hurt feelings” about Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress for Meghan’s wedding. “There is work to do, but she’s willing to move forward,” they noted. It’s hard to sort out who instigated the crying incident before the Sussexes’ wedding over Charlotte’s “ill-fitting dress.”
According to Kate, Meghan made her and Charlotte cry about getting the dresses altered. Harry claimed in his memoir, Spare, that his sister-in-law wanted the dresses scratched and redesigned just four days before the wedding. The event left Meghan sobbing “on the floor” after their visit, and Kate later apologizing with a card and flowers. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle where the pressure of a high-profile wedding and an unexpected wardrobe situation raised tensions. It’s at the point that the incident should be laid to rest for good if they want to move forward which seems to ultimately come down to Prince William’s decision.
“Kate would be open to making nice if William wanted to, but she won’t meddle,” the second source summed up. “She has faith that the situation will resolve itself in time.”
