Zelenskyy Says The US Security Deal Is Ready, but Ratification Looms In The Balance.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the US security guarantee document for Ukraine is “100% ready” and awaiting signing. This development comes after talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in Abu Dhabi, where negotiators discussed Washington’s framework for ending the war.

The agreement would provide security guarantees from the US to Ukraine, but its ratification by both the US Congress and the Ukrainian parliament is pending. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s membership in the European Union by 2027 would serve as an “economic security guarantee”.

However, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed skepticism about the guarantees, stating they were meant to preserve the Zelenskyy regime rather than ensure lasting peace. The US and Ukraine have been negotiating a security deal amidst Russia’s nearly four-year invasion of Ukraine.
