Biography of Gilbert Poillérat

Gilbert Poillerat is a renowned French artist and skilled craftsman who was also a designer, French ironworker, and creator throughout the 20th century. Poillerat received his education at the École Boulle in Paris between 1921 and 1927. He then worked as a designer and craftsman of wrought iron furniture for the well-known Edgar Brandt at the rue Marat in Paris.
Gilber Poillerat became well-known to the public thanks to his arabesques on his balustrades. These were crisscrossed by childhood memories and lovely visions, like to a winged writing. Its tall bronze leaves, adorned with strong and elegant patterns, rotate smoothly.
Poillerat joined Baudet, Donon et Roussel’s carpentry and metal development workshop, which was in charge of its new Poillerat designed and installed lighting, firedogs, screens, seats, tables, and grillwork. Unexpectedly, his work was shown at the 1928 Salon d’Automne. His metalwork, which he created using a variety of mediums such as jewelry and clothing, was characterized by its characteristic winding calligraphic structures.
Poillerat created a bronze door for the ocean liner Normandie in 1935. Poillerat completed more work for the Bibliotheque Nationale and the Palais de Chaillot.
Poillerat produced art edition wallpaper cartons for his friend George Zerapha’s prestigious public collection between 1948 and 1952. Leonor Fini, Jacques Flandin, Maurice Brianchon, Colette Geden, René Fumeron, Simone Godquin, Raymond Peynet, and Odette Martin Girard all contributed drawings to these.
The entry grids of Maisons-Alfort, home of Jules-Ferry College, are decorated with These welcome its pupils and stand for the fields of science, history, the arts, natural science, and geography. Gilbert Poillerat created these ironwork designs.
The enormous starry louvre of the facade, where the portal is inscribed with motives symbolized the Twelve tribes of Israel, the doors of the aisles overlooking the court, the pulpit, the Holy Ark, the candelabra, the stalls, and the lamps of mourning are all executed in his workshops; only the candelabrum of the Oratory of the Young is made, in his drawing, by the students of the ORT professional school of Strasbourg. The great synagogue of the Peace of Strasbourg, whose ironwork is completed by Gilbert Poillerat, is a vital component of the entire synagogue.
Poilleart became a teacher. In 1946, he opened his own workshop after studying at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs. He abandoned furnishings and décor in favor of wrought iron work, taking on orders for the Palais de l’Elysee (the French White House) and other public and legislative buildings.

Poillerat created the ironwork for the new synagogue in Strasbourg. Poillerat collaborated often with Jacques Adnet, a well-known French designer. 1988 saw his death.
