PLANS for the nation's first Hollywood theme park boasting a 500-room hotel, entertainment zone and train station have seen a huge boost.
A brand new Universal Studios tourism site could be making its way to Bedfordshire.
Last year, Universal confirmed the purchase of around 476 acres of land with the goal of exploring ideas for a new theme park and resort.
Local residents have been consulted and the local MP for Mid Bedforshire has backed the project in Parliament.
Tory MP Blake Stephenson secured a Westminster Hall debate on tourism in his constituency.
He has encouraged the Government to push the investment, describing the plans as a "huge opportunity".
Speaking to the House of Commons last Thursday, Stephenson asking the Minister for Tourism to provide an update on the status of the project.
Chris Bryant detailed how he could not reveal "precise details" of the negotiations but that they are "going well".
Bryant also described the potential theme park as "absolutely transformational for the British tourism industry".
According to the Universal UK website, the company is currently considering feedback they received during the engagement period and preparing a planning submission.
The side also described Bedford as an "ideal location" due to its convenient transport links.
While the East West Rail (EWR) project could deliver improved travel to the existing railway between Bletchley and Bedford.
Should the project be given the green light in the future, it has been estimated that 8,000 new jobs could be up for grabs.
This could increase within the first 20 years of operation.
Universal Destinations and Experiences has five branded theme parks across the globe.
These include Universal Orlando Resort, Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan, Universal Beijing Resort and Universal Studios Singapore.
All of these offer immersive attractions, exceptional hotel and resort options, unique merchandise and culinary experiences.
It follows the new plans hitting headlines last year with them park fans going wild with excitement.
The rumours first surfaced after Universal's owners Comcast and NBC registered the domain names UniversalStudiosGreatBritain.com and UniversalGreatBritain.com.
