Amarillo Little Theatre presents its first production of the year and fourth Mainstage production of the season, “Dial M For Murder,” starting Jan. 16 on the ALT Allen Shankles Mainstage, located at 2019 Civic Circle.
Passion runs high in this fresh adaptation of the classic, iconic revenge thriller, based on the book by Frederick Knott. After being adapted by playwright Jeffrey Hatcher, “Dial M for Murder” has even more surprises and diabolic twists than the celebrated 1954 Hitchcock film. For more, see today’s cover story.

Chamber Music Amarillo was set to begin its season with “Centuries of Musical Joy” on Jan. 11 at AmTech Career Academy, featuring Bill Takacs and David Lough on double trumpet concertos of Manfredini and Vivaldi soloists Annie Chalex Boyle on violin and pianist Daniel del Pino performing the Mendelssohn Double concerto for violin, piano, and strings, and Lubbock Symphony Orchestra conductor David Cho on the podium. The concert also planned to include works of Britten and Handel.
For “Elicio Winds,” set for Feb. 15 at the Amarillo Museum of Art, Chamber Music Amarillo is partnering with the symphony on the theme “Mountains and Oceans,” with works inspired by visual artists performed by flutist Virginia Broffitt Kunzer, oboist Kathleen Carter-Bell and bassoonist Conor Bell.

The Amarillo Symphony’s season continues with “Beautiful Blue Danube,” with performances at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 and 18 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts. George Jackson will be conducting the concerts, which feature guest New Zealand violin virtuoso Ben Baker. Join them as they waltz through Vienna and Prague with Benjamin Britten’s Violin Concerto as well as Johann Strauss’ Blue Danube Waltz and Antonin Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.

Thursday, comedian and podcast host Theo Von announced his widely popular comedy tour Return of the Rat is coming to the Amarillo Civic Center Complex on March 30, 2025. Tickets went on sale online on the panhandletickets website in November.
Theo Von grew up in the stray animal belt of southern Louisiana. He was a child there and became an adult slowly there. He can be seen and heard weekly on his widely popular podcasts that garner millions of listens/views a month This Past Weekend, and King and the Sting. Theo’s new comedy special Regular People was filmed at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tenn., and is now streaming on Netflix.
The American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum in Amarillo’s latest exhibition, “Behind the Action: Making Magic with the Horses of Hollywood,” is now open to the public. This immersive, bilingual exhibit highlights the vital role horses play in creating some of Hollywood’s most iconic moments and celebrates Amarillo’s connection to the film industry.
Running now through Nov. 15, 2025, the exhibit delves into the fascinating relationships between actors and their equine co-stars. Through interviews with wranglers, stunt performers, trainers, and actors, visitors will uncover the history of horses in entertainment, the art of their training, and the safety measures that bring these scenes to life. A centerpiece of the exhibit is a collection of props and costumes from the critically acclaimed television series “1883,” parts of which were filmed in the Amarillo area.
“Amarillo’s landscapes provided a dramatic and authentic backdrop for ‘1883,’ making our region an integral part of the series’ success,” said Sherman Bass, Greater Amarillo Film Commissioner. “This exhibit not only showcases the horses that brought these stories to life but also honors Amarillo’s role in Western filmmaking and storytelling.”
