President-elect Donald Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated Monday in Washington, D.C.
The swearing-in ceremony for Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance has been moved inside the U.S. Capitol due to the freezing temperatures forecast in the nation’s capital.
“I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday.
Several events are planned in the lead-up to Monday’s ceremony, including a rally at Washington’s Capital One Arena featuring remarks from Trump and key members of his inner circle.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. filed a petition with the Food and Drug Administration in May 2021 seeking to force it to rescind its authorization of COVID vaccines, a copy of which was obtained and published by the New York Times on Friday.
The news will undoubtedly be mentioned in RFK Jr.’s upcoming Senate confirmation hearing to oversee the Health and Human Services Department, and calls into question his pledge not to “take away anybody’s vaccines.”
Back in 2021, when RFK apparently tried to force the FDA to take away peoples’ vaccines, the country was recording an average of 552 COVID deaths per day, according to data tracked by Johns Hopkins University, down from a high of more than 3,000 a day just two months prior.
A 2023 study by researchers at the University of Southern California and Brown University found that in its first 8 months, an effort to distribute COVID vaccines in 141 countries likely saved the lives of 2.36 million people.
New York Mayor Eric Adams, who’s been indicted on five federal corruption charges, is meeting with Trump today at Mar-a-Lago to discuss “New Yorkers’ priorities,” his aides said. The visit is being paid for with city funds, Adams’ spokesperson added, because the trip has a “city purpose.”
“The mayor looks forward to having a productive conversation with the incoming president on how we can move our city and country forward,” his spokesperson Fabien Levy posted on social media.
People with knowledge of the visit told The New York Times that Adams was the one who requested the meeting. The two men have grown closer in recent months, with Trump recently saying he’s open to pardoning him if he’s convicted.
“I think that he was treated pretty unfairly,” Trump said of Adams last month.
Trump is expected to unleash dozens of executive orders as soon as he’s sworn into office, including many on immigration. The president-elect reportedly told Republican senators in a private meeting last week that he plans to quickly issue more than 100 sweeping orders starting on his first day as president, according to The Associated Press.
His allies have reportedly been preparing several executive orders for him to sign right away, including ones focused on the U.S.-Mexico border, anti-transgender policies in schools and vaccine mandates, the AP reports.
His team has been putting together a national emergency declaration that will allow his administration to quickly implement his crackdown on immigration, Politico reported.
Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted will join the U.S. Senate, filling the seat formerly held by Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Gov. Mike DeWine (R) announced his pick of Husted to succeed Vance in a news conference Friday afternoon. Husted has been Ohio lieutenant governor since 2019.

Monday’s inauguration will be the coldest in 40 years as freezing weather and brutal winds are expected to hit D.C.
The day’s high temperature is projected to be just 24 degrees and the low projected to be 9.
The 1985 inauguration of Ronald Reagan might still hold the record for coldest, however. The National Weather Service described Reagan’s inauguration as “sunny, but bitter cold” as temperatures hovered around just 7 degrees.
But the worst weather day for an inauguration goes to President William H. Taft’s ceremony in 1909. A storm dropped 10 inches of snow, and strong winds toppled trees.
“It took 6,000 men and 500 wagons to clear 58,000 tons of snow and slush from the parade route,” the National Weather Service said of the event.
Trump said Friday that he and Vice President-elect JD Vance will be sworn into office inside the U.S. Capitol Rotunda instead.
“There is an Arctic blast sweeping the Country,” Trump posted Friday on his social media website, Truth Social. “I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way.”

Three garbage trucks will play a role in Trump’s inauguration on Monday, in a throwback to an Oct. 30 news conference Trump held from the passenger seat of a garbage truck in Green Bay, Wisc.
With some of the festivities set to move inside amid freezing temperatures, it’s unclear if the Loadmaster originally scheduled for the parade will still make an appearance. The company told WILX Trump’s inaugural team initially asked for just one truck, only to bump up the request to three.
Trump’s October garbage truck stunt was a followup to comments made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a separate Trump rally, in which he referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.” When President Joe Biden retorted that “the only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” Trump jumped on the opportunity to recast it as a slight against Trump supporters — not Puerto Ricans.
Trump will hold a rally in D.C. on Sunday, the day before the inauguration. It will mark his first rally in the capital since his one on Jan. 6, 2021, that led to a violent, deadly riot.
People familiar with the plans told NBC News that Elon Musk and Hulk Hogan are among the slated speakers. Other reported speakers include members of his family, Vice President-elect JD Vance, UFC CEO Dana White and conservative media personality Megyn Kelly.
The rally at Capital One Arena is schedule to kick off at 3 p.m ET.
Donald Trump is set to notch his first big legislative win quickly after being sworn in as the nation’s 47th president — and he has Democrats to thank for it.
The Senate voted 61-35 on Friday to advance a major immigration bill aiming to crack down on immigrants lacking permanent legal status who commit crimes. A final vote on passage is expected after Trump’s inauguration on Monday.
