Need something fun to do on a Friday night? The Palm Springs Cultural Center has just the thing for foodies, cinephiles and more.
Foodie Fridays, a new food pop-up event, will take place 4 to 8 p.m. every Friday at the Cultural Center, located at 2300 E. Baristo Road. The weekly gathering kicks off this Friday with a number of local and Southern California vendors and food trucks, as well as entertainment inside the center itself.
Here’s what you need to know.
Foodie Fridays is a brand new nightly market for the Palm Springs Cultural Center, according to Lindsay Jordan, manager of the Palm Springs Farmers Market, which is also held at the center.
“There’s nothing to do on a Friday night in Palm Springs if you don’t want to go to a bar or go have dinner at a restaurant,” Jordan said. “This way, you’re able to come have dinner, have a cocktail, see a movie, watch some live music, hang out with the family.”
Located in the parking lot of the Cultural Center, a variety of food trucks and vendors will be set up. Admission to Foodie Fridays is free, and Jordan said vendor prices vary between $9 to $15.
An outdoor bar will also be set up so that cocktails and other libations can be enjoyed. Tables and heat lamps will be available to provide a more comfortable atmosphere.
Foodie Fridays also caters toward families, with activities available for the youngest of residents.
Depending on the turnout, Jordan said Foodie Fridays may also incorporate themed markets to go alongside the food vendors. In the works is a vinyl record market.

Foodie Fridays isn’t the only thing available at the Cultural Center on Friday nights as a slew of movies, shows and live performances are typically displayed on the marquee.
On the lineup this Friday is a screening of Alfred Hitchcock’s chilling “The Wrong Man,” as part of the center’s Hitchcock Retrospective series (screening at 7 p.m.). Additionally, a new documentary “Liza: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story,” all about actress and singer Liza Minnelli’s life, is also showing (screening at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.). Tickets cost $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students (tickets cost $12 for “The Wrong Man” regardless of age).
Those wanting to hear some live music can check out “Razzle Dazzle: A Broadway Revue,” hosted by Bonnie Gilgallon, which showcases the vibrant world of Broadway. Entry is $20 per person, and the show begins at 7 p.m.
Finally, Desert Ensemble Theatre spotlights a tumultuous time in writer Truman Capote’s life, when he betrayed his society “Swans” in the pages of Esquire, with “Tru.” Actor Chuck Yates recreates his critically acclaimed performance, which he created for Coyote StageWorks in 2013. Tickets cost $40, and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.
