Monty Don has revealed the ‘truth’ as he gives Garderners’ World fans an intriguing update on his future on the hit show.
Having taken the presenting reigns from Alan Titchmarsh in 2003, Monty has presented the show ever since, with a brief hiatus between 2008 and 2011.
He has now given an update on his future on the show: “I never make plans beyond two years, but I’ve agreed to do another two (from January 2025),” he told the Radio Times.
Delighting fans as he pens a deal that will see him host the much-loved gardening show for at least another two years, he revealed the “truth” behind his decision: “Every time I think, ‘Am I really going to do this?’ But the truth is that I do enjoy it. I’m lucky because it’s in my own garden. If the programme is made well, I’ll continue.” Don’t miss… Monty Don issues huge career news away from Gardeners’ World after exit fears [LATEST]
Away from his regular slot on Gardeners’ World, Monty will soon have a show of his own, which will see him showcasing some of the best gardens the country has to offer. Monty Don’s British Gardens will start airing on January 10 at 8pm.
Having spent so much time visiting gardens around the world, Monty feels like it’s time to shift his focus to UK gardening: “I’ve been travelling the world visiting gardens since Around the World in 80 Gardens in 2008.”
Eager to look at British gardening through a different lens to what we have seen before, he added: “While Gardeners’ World is essentially practical, sharing the experience of how to garden, the travel programmes are more of a cultural thing: Why are people gardening here, what does it mean to them?
