Pete Davidson is opening up about his latest role and the chance to play the villain in the upcoming movie Dog Man.
“It’s a really fun, loud, layered character,” Davidson, 31, said in an interview with CBS on Sunday, January 26, referring to Dog Man’s forever nemesis, Petey the Cat. “I don’t get a lot of opportunities to stretch like that.”
The comedian — who has been out of the public eye as of late after checking into a wellness center for mental health treatment in June 2024 – went on to share how grateful he is to have a shot at playing the bad guy in author and illustrator Dav Pilkey’s beloved Dog Man books.
“It’s the best arc I’ve ever been given,” the comedian continued. “Usually I’m in a movie for, like, nine minutes, and then shot in the face, so it was nice to have a full [arc].”

Davidson was referring to his short appearance in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad. In the movie, his character, Blackguard, is killed within the first 10 minutes.
The SNL alum’s latest character is a large departure from his other roles in films like Bodies Bodies Bodies and The Dirt, though he is no stranger to the children’s movie genre — the actor also lent his voice to 2019’s The Angry Birds Movie 2.
“I’m a huge Dav Pilkey fan,” Davidson told CBS in the same interview. “I grew up reading all the Captain Underpants books. My mom got them for me. All the young kids in my family, they all read Dog Man, they’re obsessed with Dog Man. And then right around the time I started noticing that, we got the offer.”
In a recent interview with W Magazine published in December 2024, Davidson opened up about what he hopes he will be known for — especially after dating a slew of Hollywood A-listers including Ariana Grande, Kate Beckinsale and Kim Kardashian.

“I just want to be known for doing good work,” he said at the time. “I want to be out there only when it’s movies, stand-up, charity or business ventures. That’s when I want to be seen. I don’t want to be this f—ing loser who just dates people. That’snot who I am.”
In the same interview, Davidson went on to admit that he thinks he was “oversaturated” in the media.
“In The Sopranos, there’s this line from Tony that’s like, ‘You ever feel like you got into something at the end? When the good times were over?’ That’s how I feel about show business and being a celebrity. It’s over.”
