The “Today” show is set to feature celebrity guest hosts after Hoda Kotb exits the NBC morning program this Friday.
E! News reports Scarlett Johansson, Taraji P. Henson, Eva Longoria, Keke Palmer and Michelle Buteau will be among the first guest hosts on the “Today” show’s fourth hour, which begins at 10 a.m.
“We love these women, we’ve said we love these women. I feel like Hoda helped me manifest this. Nobody will ever fill this chair, but (they) sure can try,” said Jenna Bush Hager.
Bush Hager will continue co-hosting “Today with Hoda and Jenna,” which will now be known as “Today with Jenna and Friends.” Henson will host Jan. 13 and 17, followed by Longoria on Jan. 14, Palmer on Jan. 15, and Buteau on Jan. 16. Johansson, whose husband co-hosts “Weekend Update” on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” will co-host on Jan. 21.
NBC veteran Craig Melvin, meanwhile, will replace Kotb as co-anchor on the “Today” show’s 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. hours alongside Savannah Guthrie. Melvin will also continue to co-host the “Today” show’s third hour with Dylan Dreyer, Sheinelle Jones, and SUNY Oswego alumnus Al Roker.
Kotb’s last day will be Friday, Jan. 10. She said she wanted to “try something new” after turning 60, wanting to spend more time with her family and launch a wellness app and company. A permanent co-host for the fourth hour will be announced later, NBC said.
