It appears President Donald Trump is poised to make his first visit to Palm Beach since his return to the White House.
According to temporary flight restrictions issued Wednesday morning by the Federal Aviation Administration, Trump is expected to arrive in Palm Beach County after 6:30 p.m. Friday and depart before 6 p.m. Sunday.
During Trump’s first term in the White House, flight restrictions served as a reliable way for those in Palm Beach County to know when to expect a visit from the president — along with the raft of security measures his arrival will bring.
It’s unclear when South Ocean Boulevard next to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club will close. Palm Beach officials typically send an alert about 24 hours beforehand to let drivers know the road will close between South County Road and the Southern Boulevard traffic circle. No alert was issued as of Wednesday morning.
The U.S. Secret Service ordered South Ocean Boulevard next to Mar-a-Lago to close effective July 20, following the July 13 attempted assassination of Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
While the road initially was to be closed around-the-clock every day, the Secret Service, Palm Beach, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Mar-a-Lago announced in mid-August that the road will reopen when Trump is away from Palm Beach for extended periods of time.
Officials have declined to say exactly how long that is, but Trump typically must be gone for two or more days for the road to reopen.
The visit coincides with Feb. 1, the date by which Trump has said blanket 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico — and possibly China as well — will take effect.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that date “still holds.”
Trump has cited illegal immigration and the flow of drugs across the Canadian and Mexican borders with the U.S. in setting the tariffs.
Economists have warned that tariffs can lead to higher prices for U.S. consumers.
A trip this weekend to Mar-a-Lago also would follow a raft of executive orders, memos and policies issued by Trump this week, including an executive order that bans transgender people from serving in the U.S. military, and a temporary pause on all grant, loan and financial assistance programs that created confusion among some state and federal agencies and officials.
While this weekend would mark Trump’s first trip to Palm Beach since his Jan. 20 inauguration, he made his first trip to the Sunshine State last weekend, when he stayed at his Trump National Doral Golf Club near Miami from Saturday to Monday.
During his stay in Doral, Trump spoke at the House Republican Members Conference Dinner on Monday evening after being photographed playing a round of golf earlier that day.
Trump’s first visit to Palm Beach following his 2017 inauguration was Feb. 3-6, when he attended the 60th annual International Red Cross Ball that was being held at his Mar-a-Lago Club.
He made more than 30 trips to Palm Beach County during his first term as president from 2017 to 2021.
