President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as the President of the United States on Inauguration Day, which falls on Monday, Jan. 20, this year.
The ceremonies, which will broadcast across multiple TV networks including ABC, CNN and Fox News, feature the swearing-in, the inaugural address and a review of the troops. And, of course, audiences are usually treated to live performances by top musicians.
In previous years, artists such as Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga and Diana Ross have graced the stage at the highly-anticipated national event. Here’s who’s slated to perform Monday.
Carrie Underwood will sing “America the Beautiful” during Trump’s inauguration. She’ll be accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” Underwood said in a statement to USA TODAY. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Underwood, who has never publicly endorsed Trump, explained why she tries to avoid getting involved in politics.
“I feel like more people try to pin me places politically,” she said. “I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”
The Village People, the group behind the “Y.M.C.A.” track often played at Trump’s rallies, will also perform in events relating to the inauguration, the group announced in a Facebook post Monday.
“We know this won’t make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics,” the band said in the post. “Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.”
Country singer Lee Greenwood, whose song “God Bless The U.S.A.” is also often heard at Trump rallies, is slated to perform during the swearing-in ceremony, according to the Associated Press. Opera singer Christopher Macchio will perform the national anthem at the end of the program.
During other inauguration events, Kid Rock, Billy Ray Cyrus and Liberty University’s Praise Choir are scheduled to perform at the Make America Great Again Victory Rally taking place Sunday, Jan. 19. Country singer-songwriter Jason Aldean will perform at the Liberty Ball. Country artists Rascal Flatts and Parker McCollum will perform at the Commander in Chief Ball. Singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw is slated to perform at the Starlight Ball.
The Liberty Ball is also set to feature a surprise musical guest.
Before he was sworn into office in 2017, Trump held a concert at the Lincoln Memorial that included performances from Toby Keith, Lee Greenwood and 3 Doors Down.
“I don’t apologize for performing for our country or military,” Keith said at the time.
“America’s Got Talent” alum Jackie Evancho performed the national anthem during the 2017 swearing-in ceremony.
However, some artists reportedly rejected invitations to perform for Trump, and Jennifer Holliday pulled out of performing at the 2017 welcome concert after facing backlash. “I was honestly just thinking that I wanted my voice to be a healing and unifying force for hope through music to help our deeply polarized country,” she said at the time.
“Regretfully, I did not take into consideration that my performing for the concert would actually instead be taken as a political act against my own personal beliefs and be mistaken for support of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.”
Performers for President Biden’s inauguration in 2021 included Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.
