A couple in Indonesia’s Aceh province was publicly caned 140 times each for having sex outside marriage and consuming alcohol, under the region’s strict Islamic law. The punishment was carried out in a public park, with the woman fainting after enduring the lashes and being taken away in an ambulance.

The couple received 100 lashes for sex outside marriage and 40 for drinking alcohol. Aceh is the only province in Indonesia to impose Sharia law, which prohibits sexual relations between unmarried couples and punishes offenders with caning.
